The harness is part of the personal protection equipment and should personally belong to the user. It must only be used with a shock absorber according to EN 355, guided-type fall arrester with rigid anchor line according to EN 353-1, fall arrestor with flexible anchor line (rope shortener) according to EN 353-2, or retractable type fall arresters according to EN 360.
Putting on the harness:
Pull on the shoulder belt (red-orange) like braces; the support eyelets must be on your back. The seat belt (blue) must be under your hips. The leg belts must surround the upper thighs, but they must not constrict. Fasten the stomach belt properly. Always make sure that the belt is properly located and that the support eyelets are in the middle of your back!
The dorsal support eyelet must be used for a fall arrester system according to EN 363 or a rescue system according to EN 1497. Holding and retention systems are not suitable for catching purpose. The holding rope must be adjusted so that a free fall is limited to no more than 0.5 m. The connection equipment must not be draped over sharp edges or an edge of too small a diameter.
Guided type fall arresters including flexible anchor lines (AM4-UNI KS12 rope shortener) EN 353 part 2 as well as for horizontal use (falling over a sharp edge):
The guided-type fall arrester is a component of a fall protection system (EN 363) and must only be used with a harness (EN 361) e.g. AH or AMG and UNI shock absorber (EN 355).
Use of the AM4 UNI KS12 rope shortener:
The AM4 UNI rope shortener is firmly attached to the safety rope. A carabineer hook is sewn to the front part of the safety rope, and the end is secured with a knot. The rope shortener must be hooked into the catch eyelets on the neck, with the band shock absorber in the middle. The rope is shortened or lengthened by pressing the handle. Slack rope should be avoided.
Horizontal use:
When using the guided-type fall arrester in the horizontal arrangement, the pipe hook is used to fasten the guide rope to an EN 795 compliant attachment point. The attachment point does not necessarily need to be located above the person that is to be protected (for example, attachment points or structures on roof surfaces, towers, platforms, etc.)
When using the AM4 UNI KS12 rope shortener in the vicinity of unsecured falling edges, it must be ensured that the KS12 corespun rope is only guided over edges with radius of 0.5 mm or greater, also in the event of a possible fall stopped by the fall arrester system. This includes, for example, platform edges made of steel beams, wood structures, attic covers made of angled sheet metal, (concrete) masonry structures, and the like. To be on the safe side, an edge protector or a specific fall safety device is to be used e.g. for particularly sharp edges, such as cut, ground, or sheared steel edges (e.g. trapezoidal sheet metal structures without edge protectors or the like).
Warning:
Before each use, the user must carry out a visual inspection of the entire system. Damaged parts of the system, or those that have been stressed by a fall, must be withdrawn from utilisation and presented to the manufacturer or a person appointed by the manufacturer for inspection.
Changes and additions to the system are not permitted. The system and its components must be replaced immediately if there is any doubt as to its reliability. Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer.
The harness, shock absorber and rope shortener may not be exposed to acids or corrosive chemicals; if this is unavoidable, rinse immediately after use. Wash only with warm water and gentle detergent and allow to dry naturally, that is, in a well-ventilated room and not in the vicinity of fire or heat sources. After cleaning, oil articulated parts.
The harness, shock absorber and rope shortener must be protected from dam- age during use (e.g. welding sparks, sharp edges). Appropriate protective sleeves of leather or PVC are available accessories.
To protect the PPE from hazards, it should be stored in an equipment case or bag during transport or storage.
The system must be inspected by an expert or the manufacturer at least every 12 months, and repaired if necessary.
According to ZH 1/709; 1/710-BGR, the operating time of belt straps is six to eight years. As for ropes, it’s four to six years. The user is cautioned to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer / supplier. In case of doubt, please contact the manufacturer / supplier.
